The Sunderland Room is the East Solar of the original 14th century Great Hall. During the 17th century it formed the private apartment of Dorothy Sidney, Countess of Sunderland, whose husband died fighting for King Charles I at the Battle of Newbury. Through its portraits and furniture the room retains the atmosphere of times past while offering every modern comfort and facility. The Sunderland Room can be reached from the Minstrel's Gallery of the Baron's Hall. This room is available for private dinners, confidential meetings, and can be used for a boardroom for thirty or expand into a dining room for eighty. There is a small step halfway along the room making a divide if required. An ISDN line is available |
