Head Gardener 

Competitive salary + package, dependent on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic Head Gardener on one of England’s most historic and beautiful private estates.

Penshurst Place is one of the oldest family owned estates in the country, set in 2,500 acres of stunning Kent countryside. It is a family home, and also a top visitor attraction, wedding and events venue, and working country estate. The 700 year old gardens include a 17th Century 11 acre walled garden laid out in garden ‘rooms’ divided by a mile of yew hedging, Elizabethan formal lawns and parterres, informal meadow style planting, historic parkland, and watercourses and ponds.

The Head Gardener will provide management and leadership of the 7 strong Gardens team, ensuring that the gardens and parkland are presented and maintained to the highest standard, and in line with the owners’ vision.

The successful applicant will possess excellent horticultural knowledge and experience, preferably in the historic gardens sector, and will have demonstrable experience of hard and soft landscaping projects. Excellent organisational and time management skills are essential and the Head Gardener must be willing to act as an ambassador for Penshurst Place through the delivery of garden talks, guided tours and assistance with marketing material.

Weekend Weddings & Banqueting Co-ordinator

Do you have a passion for selling teamed with exceptional customer service skills?

Penshurst Place & Gardens is currently looking to recruit a Weekend Weddings & Banqueting Co-ordinator to show potential clients around the venue and oversee weekend events.  The role includes some unsocial hours however offers a good hourly rate at a prestigious venue.  Own transport is essential.

Catering & Events Staff

 

Kudos, the new partner caterers at Penshurst Place & Gardens, are seeking enthusiastic, experienced, and hands-on staff to join their team. Hours available will vary weekly, depending on booked events, with the busy season generally running from April – October.

 

Each role will include a variety of ‘front of house’ duties including:

 

  • Food and drinks service (barista experience advantageous but not essential)
  • Cash handling
  • Waiting on tables
  • Clearing tables and general cleaning
  • Maintaining a high standard of hygiene in all service areas
  • Some light furniture moving

 

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate:

 

  • A willingness to help in all areas
  • Friendly customer service;
  • Experience in hospitality/events industry (advantageous but not essential)
  • Attention to detail
  • good timekeeping skills
  • A level of comfort or experience with tills and cashing up
  • Attainment of Level 2 Food and Hygiene Safety (advantageous but not essential)

 

Candidates must also be able to work late at night and weekends for certain events and own transport is essential, due to remote location and potential unsociable hours.
