Your Ceremony

Outdoor Ceremonies

Penshurst Place is licensed for hosting Civil Ceremonies outside in our Inner Courtyard.  The Inner Courtyard is a private area for the wedding party and the perfect backdrop for a wedding ceremony.  The vows are taken in the Kings Tower whilst guests take their seats on the lawn.  Seating is up to 120.

Indoor Ceremonies

Penshurst Place boasts three indoor rooms for a civil ceremony: the Buttery, the Sunderland Room and the Baron’s Hall. For the more intimate wedding we have the Buttery which can seat up to 40 people.  The Sunderland Room is a lovely part-panelled, part-sandstone walled room, with mullioned windows, a fireplace and views across to the gardens. The amazing arched windows allow the room to emulate the grandeur of a church without the boundaries that one holds. Maximum seating is 120.  The Sunderland Room would also be the alternative room to the Inner Courtyard in the event of inclement weather. The Baron’s Hall is our largest banqueting room and is a magnificent piece of medieval architecture.  It can seat up to 200 for a ceremony and in the winter months a fire can be placed in the middle to add to the atmosphere of the room.

Church Ceremonies

The Anglican Church in Penshurst is St John the Baptist Parish Church, a lovely village church and within walking distance of Penshurst Place. Some local couples choose to have their ceremonies in the church and then walk to Penshurst Place for their reception.  The Rector, Rev Tom Holme, can be contacted on 01892 870316.
