Event Rooms & Spaces

Baron's Hall

The medieval Baron’s Hall is an impressive space at the heart of Penshurst Place, particularly suited to dinners, banquets, parties and receptions. Completed in 1341, the Baron’s Hall is the main feature of the original House, its towering beamed roof, original gothic windows and lit candelabras will delight your guests the moment they enter, providing an ideal backdrop for events with character and class. The hall can accommodate up to 200 guests for standing receptions and up to 140 for seated dining.

Sunderland Room

Named after Lady Dorothy Sidney, who married the Earl of Sunderland in the 17th century, the Sunderland Room is situated on the upper floor, with access to the Minstrels’ Gallery that overlooks the Baron’s Hall. This is a charming room, ideal for meetings, lunches, formal dinners and office Christmas dining. Today fine portraits from the family collection hang on the part-panelled and part-sandstone walls and the room has a light but mellow atmosphere, enhanced by a fire in the winter. The room can be partitioned by a heavy curtain to create two smaller spaces - ideal for a break-out space or a separate area for catering. A popular choice, it can seat up to 100 guests for dining, 32 boardroom style or 125 theatre style.

Buttery

Once the bottle storeroom of the medieval household, the Buttery is adjacent to the Baron’s Hall.  Its sandstone walls, hung with rich 17th century tapestries, create a warm and cosy atmosphere, enhanced by an open log fire in winter. It is a delightful contrast to the grandeur of the Baron’s Hall and is often used as a bar area for functions hosted there. It is also a perfect space for smaller events such as intimate lunches and dinners for up to 30 people and small business meetings for up to 16 people.

Inner Courtyard

The private courtyard is the perfect location for any event, offering an ideal outside space. Accessed through the grandest of main entrances, the courtyard offers an outdoor breakout area, also used for drinks receptions or barbeques following team building in the parkland.

Parkland

The 2,500 acres of parkland provide a perfect place for team building activities or corporate family days.  Clients can make use of our vast estate with outdoor pursuits including quad-biking, segways, falconry, fly fishing and archery amongst many others.

Garden Room

Our Garden Restaurant, adjacent to the House and close to the banqueting rooms, is a licensed premises which can be used year-round. Seating is available inside and outside on the terrace overlooking the House. Accommodating up to 84 people, it can be used as a breakout area for conferences or for having lunch during a day meeting.

Marquees

In the winter months, we are happy to offer the opportunity of a marquee within the grounds of Penshurst Place for events.  Our marquees are particularly suitable for formal dinners, balls, banquets, parties and champagne receptions. All marquees supplied are well heated and carpeted, and are fully lined with ivory-swagging, creating a luxurious backdrop. Up-lighters lining the marquee provide soft, atmospheric lighting for evening events.  A dance-floor can also be laid, if required. A marquee in the Inner Courtyard can seat up to 160 for a formal dinner. For events larger than this we are able to put a Marquee on the South Lawn or in the Parkland.
